Friends can be invited from the in-game multiplayer menu or directly through Steam.
Invite from the game menu
Open the Game Menu > Multiplayer, select the friend you want to invite, and send the invitation. You can also join sessions.
Invite through Steam
Open the Steam overlay, find the friend in your list, and use the option to invite them to the game. They can join once they accept the invitation.
